Why does AI use a competitor's content to describe a brand?

In brief

A competitor's comparison is relevant for retrieval when it discusses the brand and the question being asked. Check the version, factual claims, supporting records, and commercial framing before assessing the comparison's accuracy and fairness.

Separate verifiable product facts, dated limitations, subjective judgments, and unsupported superiority claims. Compare the detailed question answered by the rival's page with the information available on the brand's own pages. Check service tiers, newly added capabilities, and the reasoning used to judge suitability.

The response should provide accurate public evidence for the disputed point. A company does not need to mirror every hostile comparison or claim that all rivals are wrong. Demonstrable errors can support a correction request, while legitimate opinions remain part of competitive evaluation. Later tests examine whether the AI answer preserves the comparison's limits and whether important claims have valid support. Buying or manufacturing favorable comparison coverage creates a different problem from making the company's actual capabilities easier to verify.
