What can actually change when unfavorable news coverage remains online?

In brief

Unfavorable coverage can sometimes be corrected, updated, removed by its publisher, or excluded from a particular search result through an applicable process. Those outcomes are different and none follows simply from disliking the article.

The assessment starts with the exact problem: a false fact, private information, a legal issue, an outdated status, or accurate reporting that remains prominent. A correction request needs evidence of an error; a removal request has a different basis. The publisher controls its page, while a search service controls its own results.

Use current information to explain relevant developments alongside accurate reporting that remains online. Answer the question raised by the old coverage with the specific later facts and context.

Any proposed action should identify which URL or result it affects and what remains elsewhere. An updated page, a changed snippet, and disappearance from one query are not interchangeable proof that information has been erased.
