How do you measure whether search suppression reduced exposure to a damaging claim?
In brief
Measure the claim’s recurring visibility across the defined research paths, not just the rank of its original URL. Keep the query panel, markets, devices, surfaces, observation window and exposure rule explicit so later results can be compared.
Report how many completed observations contained the claim, where it appeared and whether a corrected or contextualized version changed its meaning. Group duplicates and changing URLs into a story family while preserving individual placements. Distinguish absence within the reviewed depth from confirmed deindexing. A lower web listing can coexist with an image, news card or AI summary carrying the same claim.
Include the alternatives people encounter: current factual references, independent context and relevant resolutions. If position weighting is used, explain its assumptions instead of presenting it as observed audience attention. Search Console can add owned-site impression and click evidence, but external impressions require a different source. The practical conclusion should identify the reduced encounter and remaining exposure, with examples, rather than declaring success because one URL crossed a page boundary.
