Which association and industry profiles deserve active maintenance?

In brief

Maintain profiles that help a relevant audience verify membership, capability, location or the right contact. Choose the directory for its actual role in that audience’s research, rather than a generic authority score.

Inspect the public listing and the organization behind it. Establish what inclusion means: paid membership, a submitted business listing, a qualification, an editorial selection or a regulated status. Those are different facts. A membership logo should not imply an independent performance assessment that the body never made.

Complete the fields that answer real research questions: exact business name, relevant specialisms, operating area, contact route and current affiliation. Use the body’s correction or member-update process. Some associations provide editable firm profiles; AIA’s Architect Connect is one concrete example. Keep supporting work accessible from the profile where the format permits it.

Include these records in profile corrections after a move, departure, rebrand or service change. Check whether the directory still operates and whether its pages lead to the right destination. A small set of relevant maintained references is easier to use than scattered listings containing incompatible descriptions, and it leaves a clearer trail for people researching the business.
