When is improving an existing reputation asset better than creating a new one?
In brief
Improve an existing asset when it already serves the right audience and can carry the necessary evidence. Create a new one when the information has a distinct purpose the present resource cannot meet.
Assess existing users, links, search visibility, factual accuracy, and the page's role in the wider site. Improve the explanation on a well-used service page where that is the gap. Give product limitations a distinct, usable reference when a corporate overview obscures information needed by support teams and customers.
Assign responsibility for maintaining new content, resolving overlaps, and explaining relationships. Review near-duplicate pages for useful material and competing destinations. Consolidation gives that material a clearer home when the pages serve the same need.
The decision should state what will become easier to verify and how the result will be maintained. Publishing a new page is an output; resolving a reader’s uncertainty is the intended outcome.
