What should digital reputation due diligence examine before an acquisition?

In brief

Digital reputation due diligence examines the public identities, claims, controversies, and source dependencies attached to each acquisition target. Map which names, issues, and obligations will carry into the combined business, and coordinate the findings with financial, legal, and operational diligence.

The source map should include current and former names, product brands, leadership, owned domains, influential profiles, and important issue-related searches. The review distinguishes accurate predecessor history from incorrect attribution and identifies pages that will become misleading after ownership or service responsibilities change.

Findings should connect to integration decisions. Which entity will provide the service? Which profiles can actually be updated? Who controls an acquired domain? Which unresolved issue will remain relevant after close? A dated pre-deal record makes those questions visible before an announcement creates new attention. The value is a usable factual transition plan, not a promise that the transaction erases inherited criticism.
