What distinguishes a coordinated review attack from a genuine increase in complaints?
In brief
A sudden review surge needs analysis of actual experience and posting behavior before it is called an attack. A service failure, public controversy, and coordinated rating manipulation can produce similar volume patterns.
The review compares timing, repeated text, locations, claimed transactions, account behavior, and any underlying operational event. Those signals identify cases for investigation rather than proving all negative reviewers are false. Real dissatisfied customers and people joining a campaign can appear in the same wave.
The response needs two tracks. Platform reports should point to specific inauthentic or abusive activity; customer-service work should address verified problems. Blanket dismissal can deepen a genuine complaint, while treating every post as independent experience can misstate the evidence. Progress is a cleaner factual account of the surge and an appropriate remedy for the actual harm, not simply a better average rating.
